The Railway Land Community Project, presents an opportunity to create an inner-city, urban community space that is a unlike any other – a space that is uniquely reflective of the character, history, community and vibrant future of Mount Gambier.

The four-hectare site will be flexible for many uses and will be a viable, dynamic and sustainable community asset. The development will balance a range of community use spaces with some supporting commercial areas. The vision is to create a space that has multiple uses and will forge a strong sense of community ownership to ensure its long-term viability.

A key feature of the redevelopment is the ‘market square’ setting that will act as a community gathering space for special events, markets, performances and festivals. It will be a ‘destination’ for locals and visitors.

The development will aid the continued community and commercial growth of the city and, in particular, the ongoing viability of the city centre. Additionally, the site will showcase environmentally sustainable design principles from storm water retention ponds, and the use of recycled materials to buildings or structures that are responsive to the wider environment.
