Christmas Parade

Celebrate the beginning of Christmas with the return of the AAM Timber Mount Gambier Christmas Parade on 18 November 2023.

The AAM Timber Mount Gambier Christmas Parade is a free community event, full of fantasy, floats, colourful characters, bands, dancers and more.

The Lions Club Blue Lake Brass Band Festival will kick off the festivities with a street march at 9:00am on Commercial Street East, followed by the massed march from the Old Town Hall to Crouch Street at 10:15am.

The AAM Timber Christmas Parade begins at 11:00am at Crouch Street North, travelling west on Commercial Street to Vansittart Park.

Keep an eye out for some of the local favourites including Christmas in Toy Town, Pirates 'R' Us, Bill the Steam Shovel, Hansel & Gretel, The Christmas Tree, Christmas Stars, and of course the Christmas Stocking with Father Christmas at the end of the parade. There will be a few new surprise floats as well!

With thousands of people expected to line the streets for the event, it may be difficult for children to see past the crowds. All attendees are reminded to stay behind the blue safety line at all times during the parade.

Following the parade, Father Christmas will attend the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier West’s Party in the Park event at the Cave Gardens/Thugi with live performances, food and drinks, and children’s entertainment.

The Brass Bands Festival will continue from 1:00pm with a concert at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre.

This magical event comes to life with the incredible support of community members of all ages! It is managed by a community-based Advisory Group and many volunteers, as well as many local community groups and schools create colourful and entertaining floats. They compete for prizes judged on creativity and effort in building the most impressive floats. Three judges score the floats in the various categories. The City of Mount Gambier holds a presentation night to award the winners with a framed certificate and generous prize money.

The other great feature of the Mount Gambier Christmas Parade is the inclusion of the annual Blue Lake Brass Band Festival delivered by Lions Club of Mount Gambier. This event attracts high quality brass bands from around Australia. Many bands come back year after year as it is one of the few times they get to March and play in front of such a large and appreciative audience.

Continue the festivities and visit Father Christmas at the Party in the Park.
