The City of Mount Gambier in partnership with Permaculture Mount Gambier will present an introductory session on how to "Get Growing," followed by a seed swap and interactive planting demonstration. This event will be held in conjunction with the Mount Gambier Farmers Market.

Following on from the success of the Mount Gambier Edible City project launch, the next workshop in the series will be an introduction to fruit and vegetable gardening accompanied by a seed swap.

The Mount Gambier Edible City project aims to promote the development of Mount Gambier’s local food culture – encouraging residents to grow their own food, whilst supporting existing local food producers to connect with and educate the community.

This workshop will involve giving the community the basic knowledge required to start growing their own food. Considerations of when and how to start growing will put beginners on the right path to successfully growing their own food. Additionally, there will be a seed swap and hands on activity where participants will be able to start planting their own seeds to take home.

The City of Mount Gambier acknowledges the efforts of the community who are committed to strengthening food security across our City and envisages that an informal network could develop out of the program where people make their own connections with other food growers and build resilience within the community.

The session will be run by an experienced member of Permaculture Mount Gambier and afterwards there will be an opportunity for conversations to occur amongst gardeners and those keen to discover how to create their own food habitats at home and learn from the wisdom of others.
