What is the YPN?

The Young Professionals Network (YPN) has been established as a social and support network with the opportunity to meet other ‘like’ people in Mount Gambier, particularly those who have relocated for employment/career purposes and have no family connections to rely upon.  YPN can assist young professionals new to the local community to feel welcome, increasing the likelihood of them staying or at the very least, enabling them to act as great advocates for the region due to their positive experiences.

YPN communications are coordinated via an email distribution database, in a short period of time YPN have over 180 persons registered on the database with numbers increasing as awareness of the network grows. Regular weekly social venues have been established and a calendar of period events and functions has been developed.

Some thoughts from the group:

The YPN is great because I have made some fantastic friends and generally met more people than I would have otherwise”

“The YPN has made me stay longer than I thought possible…I moved here before it stated up and the difference in my life now is amazing”

“I love the fact that the old hands in the group try their best to make the new guys feel welcome”

To register - simply email ypn@mountgambier.sa.gov.au or for further enquiries contact the City of Mount Gambier on (08) 8721 2555.

Why are you involved in the YPN?

To extend the circle of people I know, outside work.
I like socialising, having fun and meeting new people.
I got involved to meet people, find out what's happening in the Mount that I might like to get involved in, and to share the assistance that I've had since I moved down here.
As a way of meeting other young people in Mt Gambier who are not in my profession.

What does being in the YPN mean to you?

Something to do on a Friday night. And people to do things with, whether it's at long or short notice.
It's great because I have made some unreal friends out of it and generally met more people than I would have otherwise.
Now that I'm fairly established in Mt Gambier (social, sport, work), it means a regular meeting with friends, as well as making new people feel welcome.

What is the most important aspect of the YPN for you?

Getting together with different people (and some of the same people) every week.
The big functions and the ability to catch up regularly with people involved.
That everyone's welcome, and people have a positive attitude.
Informal meeting of people that’s fun and laid back.

YPN is about meeting new people and making newcomers feel welcome in Mount Gambier!!
