Screening mammograms (breast X-rays) are currently the only clinically proven way to detect breast cancer early, before symptoms develop. This gives women the greatest chance of successful treatment. BreastScreen SA aims to screen 70% of all South Australian women in the target age group of 50 to 74 years. The participation rate for women in the Penola region is approximately 65%.
