I am aware of, and understand our community’s concerns and anxiety surrounding COVID-19, including the border restrictions coming into effect this week and the impact this is having on families, businesses, farmers and the broader community.
Last night, City of Mount Gambier CEO Andrew Meddle and I represented our community at a virtual meeting with Premier Marshall, and Mayors and CEOs from across the state. The issues discussed included the international students returning to South Australia, the current and impending border restrictions and the medi-hotel.
The decisions regarding these issues are made at State Government level, however as Mayor, I continue to advocate on behalf of the community on many levels to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our community remains uncompromised.
At the meeting the Premier confirmed that the international students returning to South Australia will be quarantined in Adelaide.
We also highlighted the importance of our cross border communities for consideration by the Transition Committee.
We expect information about the establishment of a medi-hotel in Mount Gambier to be released in the near future by SA Health.
As Mayor, rest assured I share your concerns and understand the importance of continuing to keep our community safe.
