Mount Gambier Library will present two captivating evenings celebrating Australian storytelling and the natural world, featuring acclaimed authors Judy Nunn and Andrew Skeoch at The Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre next month.
Join acoustic ecologist and best-selling author Andrew Skeoch on Monday 10 November 2025 from 6:30pm in the Dress Circle for an immersive presentation exploring the voices of nature. With over three decades of experience capturing wild soundscapes across the globe, Andrew’s work has featured in documentaries and films including Peter Gabriel’s Rabbit Proof Fence soundtrack.
“Andrew’s presentations are an immersive weaving of evocative recordings accompanied by the projection of images and spectrograms, allowing the audience to see the structure and beauty of sound,” City of Mount Gambier Community Development Coordinator Kristi Brooks said.
Throughout the past decade, he has been giving presentations to audiences ranging from community groups and universities, and at festivals including WOMADelaide’s Plant Talk and TEDx in Canberra.
“In his book Deep Listening to Nature, Andrew invites us to open our ears to the natural world and connect more deeply to nature, to be still and listen. He will guide you into hearing the communications of nature; of developing your listening skills, identifying species by ear, recognising behaviours and repertoire, and finding empathy with the voices of other beings,” Mrs Brooks said.
“Uniquely, the text in Deep Listening to Nature is accompanied by audio files, where a QR code takes the reader to Andrew’s website. These immersive audio elements deepen the reader's engagement, providing a multi-sensory storytelling experience.”
This free community event offers a unique multi-sensory experience.
Beloved Australian actress and award-winning author Judy Nunn will return to Mount Gambier on Wednesday 12 November 2025 at 7:00pm in City Hall to launch her 19th novel - Pilbara, a gripping historical saga set in the wild frontier of Western Australia’s northwest in the late 1800s.
Best known for her stage and television career in Australia, including roles in Sons and Daughters, Prisoner, and Home and Away, Judy began writing in the 1990s and quickly became a renowned author.
“In the 90s Judy turned her hand to writing and her first three books became instant bestsellers. Now, with 19 books to her name, she is one of Australia’s most successful authors,” Mrs Brooks said.
Pilbara follows the Burton family’s journey from England to Australia, as they travel from the lush green farming land to the brutal landscape of Australia, determined to rebuild their name and legacy. As they struggle to survive, they are drawn into a battle for power and land.
“Judy is renowned for bringing the stories of our land and its people vividly to life. Her trademark authenticity and unforgettable characters resonate deeply, lingering in the hearts of readers long after the final page is turned,” Mrs Brooks said.
The evening will include a Q&A session with Judy, and attendees will have the opportunity to purchase and have books signed, including Pilbara and a selection of her previous titles.
