City of Mount Gambier and the North Gambier Football Netball Club will jointly fund the preparation of concept plans for the redevelopment of the Vansittart Park grandstand.

A financial co-contribution of $12,000 has been endorsed by Council from the 2024/2025 Sport and Recreation Capital Works Program to commission the architectural services required to develop plans and costings to repair and upgrade the heritage listed grandstand and changing facilities/amenities, with a master plan for the site also earmarked by Council for future years.

“This initiative represents a substantive first step in the comprehensive renewal and upgrade of this important community asset and complements Council’s existing aspirations to develop a master plan for the site,” City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin said.

“This contribution to the appointment of the club’s architect will maximise the potential to leverage significant external funding required to undertake the repairs and upgrades of the community asset to protect and enhance its heritage values.”

The club will now engage architectural services provided by Tectvs, a firm with significant relevant experience in sports facility and precinct planning and development, including work with Port Adelaide Football Club, Adelaide City Soccer Club and South Melbourne Football Club.

"North Gambier is really excited for the opportunity to work with Council on the grandstand project as a joint venture. We think the grandstand is an iconic structure within the Vansittart Park precinct and it would be great to see it developed and enhanced for future generations," North Gambier Football Club Committee Member Peter Allen said.
