Coaching clinic funding announced

The City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund will donate a total of $8,730 to local sporting organisations to enable them to conduct specialised coaching clinics for their juniors.

Member organisations of the Junior Sports Assistance Fund had the opportunity to apply for financial assistance for the specialised coaching of juniors, coaches of juniors and/or umpires of juniors. Member organisations were advised that the Junior Sports Assistance Fund had the capacity to increase funding for the 2023 round of applications.

The financial assistance approved will enable the selected organisations to provide coaching clinics for their highly skilled juniors, coaches and/or umpires from within their respective organisations. Presiding Member of the Junior Sports Assistance Fund Cr Josh Lynagh

Applications closed on 26 May 2023 and the Junior Sports Assistance Fund Committee has approved the following allocations:

  • Blue Lake Y Swim Club $2,500
  • Basketball Mount Gambier $2,230
  • Mount Gambier Cycling Club $1,500
  • Mount Gambier Swimming Club $2,500

“A second round of funding will be advertised in October to support member organisations operating over the summer months,” Cr Lynagh said.

Junior Sports Assistance Fund supports state and national representatives

The City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund continues to support local sports people competing at state level or higher.

The sporting community has faced some challenging years following the impacts associated with the COVID-19 crisis. Slowly tournaments have resumed, and member organisations are again starting to engage in state and national tournaments.

To assist member organisations through this difficult period, the Junior Sports Assistance Fund provided relief by waiving member contributions over the past three years, enabling clubs to rebuild and lessen any financial burden they may have experienced.

Sporting groups are a valuable asset to the community and the Junior Sports Assistance Fund is proud to be able to support its member organisations.

With state and national events resuming, we would like to celebrate the following juniors who have travelled to participate in state and national tournaments:

  • Lucy Dening from the Mount Gambier Swimming Club was selected for the state swimming team to compete at the Australian Age & MC Age Championships held in the Gold Coast in April 2023.
  • Bree Ridding from the Mount Gambier and District Baseball League was selected for the state team to compete at the Australian Youth Women's Championships held in Altona in April 2023.
