Riddoch set to open first exhibitions for 2019

Recreation Hub Business Case Endorsed
24 January 2019

​The City of Mount Gambier endorsed the full business case submission to the Federal Government for the Regional Growth Fund application to secure $15 million earmarked for the Community and Recreation Hub at a Special Council meeting last night. The business case will be lodged with the Federal Government today Thursday 24 January 2019 to meet the Friday 25 January 2019 deadline. Read full article

Tertiary Health Education Grants Launched

​The Mount Gambier and District Tertiary Health Education Grant program will provide 12 financial grants to local health students in 2019 and is now open for applications. The program supports city or district residents who are required to leave the region to undertake university studies in identified health skill shortage areas within the community. The program provides local students with a $2000 grant to help complete their tertiary studies within the health field. Read full article

Public art adds life to CBD shopfronts

Commercial Street West is home to a new trial public art initiative to create interest in vacant shopfronts and increase foot traffic in the CBD. City of Mount Gambier and Commercial Real Estate Agent Matt Kain identified a pilot site to feature a locally inspired design by artist/designer Kristyn Jones. Located at 3b Commercial Street West the locally inspired artistic design was installed today and aims to create conversation, an appreciation for our natural environment and to build civic pride in our city and region while highlighting the commercial opportunities available in the heart of Mount Gambier. State Government announces funds for Hub

​The State Government has announced a funding commitment of $10 million from the State Regional Growth Fund to assist with the Mount Gambier Community and Recreation Hub project. The announcement follows a recent meeting between South Australian Premier Steven Marshall, City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin OAM and CEO Mark McShane and the provision of a project business case to the State Government. Self-Portraits with a Twist Workshop

​Inspired by childhood memories and family tales, Adelaide-based artist Brianna Speight has taken up residency in Mount Gambier for three weeks to research and create work for her first solo exhibition in Adelaide in April. Community votes in favour of Hub

City of Mount Gambier electors have voted in favour of the Community and Recreation Hub proposal, the largest proposed infrastructure project in Council’s history. Of a total 8,722 elector survey returns, 71.6 per cent voted ‘yes’ in support of the project, and 28.4 per cent voted ‘no’. The total number of 'yes' votes was 6,230 while 2,466 electors voted 'no' with a 0.13 per cent invalid response rate. Read full article
