City of Mount Gambier is encouraging members of the community to roll up their sleeves and help contribute to an unpolluted environment for Clean Up Australia Day this Sunday 1 March 2020. Council will host the clean up in the vicinity of the CBD commencing from 10:00am at the Cave Garden.

Since 1990, local communities have been getting together to clean up their schools, parks, sporting grounds, road sides and city centres by collecting and removing rubbish.

We would love to see you get your friends and family together and come along to contribute to Mount Gambier being a clean and green city this Sunday.- City of Mount Gambier Environmental Sustainability Officer Aaron Izzard

A central marshalling area will be located in the Cave Garden near the Civic Centre from 10:00am to 12:00pm for volunteer information and to lead the clean up.

Council encourages sporting clubs, families, individuals and groups to bring their own gloves and participate in the clean up.

“It’s more important than ever for everyone to play their part in keeping our environment clean, particularly with the current issues regarding plastic in Mount Gambier and the world,” Mr Izzard said.

“Even a few minutes spared by individuals to help on the day all counts towards the big clean up - unfortunately litter has been increasing in recent years and we need to turn this around.”

A free sausage sizzle will be provided by Lakes Rotary for all volunteers following the clean up.

Register your participation online at www.cleanup.org.au and select your preferred location.

Schools Clean Up Day will be held on Friday 28 February 2020. Contact your school to confirm participation details.
