City of Mount Gambier encourages the community to contribute their thoughts to the South Australian Regional Public Transport Review.
Public transport in Mount Gambier, and across South Australia, is the responsibility of the Government of South Australia, via the Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT).
Aurecon Consulting has been engaged by DIT to undertake the review seeking community feedback in the development of a South Australia Public Transport Strategy.
“Mount Gambier is South Australia’s regional capital and serves a cross-border population of more than 130,000 people. Despite our size and our contribution to the state, our public transport system has remained unchanged for more than 35 years and has become outdated, inequitable and inadequate,” Mayor Lynette Martin said.
“Council calls on the South Australian Government to work in collaboration with us to deliver a sustainable, inclusive and modern public transport system that supports liveability, social equity, and opportunities for all in our community.”
Council receives regular feedback from the community about the inadequacies of the existing service and a desire for improvement.
“The Government of South Australia has, for some time, referenced this review as their opportunity to better understand the service gaps and the challenges and opportunities for improvement – so this an important time for our community to have their say,” Mayor Martin said.
