In 2025, the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier Lakes generously donated $3,000 to the Youth Empowerment Sports Program, aimed at supporting junior athletes facing barriers to participation in their chosen sport.
The club’s intention is to contribute proceeds to help young sportspersons who may be limited by various circumstances, by providing financial assistance to enable their involvement. - Presiding Member of the City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund Cr Josh Lynagh.
An agreement was reached with the Rotary Club for the Junior Sports Assistance Fund Committee to manage the confidential administration of the program. This process ensures that eligible recipients from member organisations are identified and supported appropriately.
The Youth Empowerment Sports Program is designed to assist juniors who are passionate about sport but may face challenges in pursuing their goals.
At its meeting held 24 September 2025, the Junior Sports Assistance Fund Committee reviewed applications for the second round of funding allocations for 2025 with grants being awarded as follows:
(a) Basketball Mount Gambier (1 junior) $300
(b) Mount Gambier and District Pony Club (2 juniors) $600
(c) Mount Gambier and District Baseball League (1 junior) $300
(d) Lower South East Hockey Association (2 juniors) $600
The Junior Sports Assistance Fund and the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier Lakes look forward to continuing this valuable initiative in 2026.
