A message from the Mayor - COVID-19
16 March 2020

Mayor Martin Chamber 2018

In this time of worldwide uncertainty as a result of the current COVID-19 situation I wanted to reach out to residents of the City of Mount Gambier to reassure you that the health and wellbeing of our community is paramount. Council is currently reviewing its response to the global issue in an effort to protect our community and slow the spread of the virus.

As we work through what this means for our community and the services we provide we encourage you to:

  • Look after one another, in particular the elderly and those most vulnerable,
  • Consider the whole community when making purchases and moving around in public spaces,
  • Consider limiting non-essential contact and activities in line with health authorities advice to use social distancing measures,
  • Stay abreast of the situation and follow the available advice at www.health.gov.au

As we continue to review our response to the virus it is imperative that as a community we remain alert but not alarmed. We must remain calm and remind each other that there is no need to panic as this will only place even more strain on precious resources and cause unnecessary stress.

The status and messaging relating to COVID-19 is changing quickly. Council continues to monitor timely advice from Federal and State Governments and will endeavor to keep you updated as we work through what this means for our community.

Please take care of yourself and each other at this challenging time.
