Five members of the Mount Gambier community took the final step in their journey to become an Australian citizen last week.

Candiates made the Australian Citizenship oath, pledging their loyalty to Australia at a City of Mount Gambier Citizenship Ceremony held at the Civic Centre Council Chamber on Thursday 3 May 2018.

City of Mount Gambier Mayor Andrew Lee was proud to officially welcome the recipients and present them with their Australian Citizenship certificate. The recipients include mother and son Alvey Serrano and Laarni Salvador from the Phillipines, Jennifer Seager from Zimbabwe, Jon King from the United Kingdom and Rajeev Khurana from India.

Soroptimist Mount Gambier presented candidates with a gift to welcome them as new Australian citizens.

Following the ceremony, the new citizens enjoyed supper with family and friends and Council staff. They were also joined by Mr Tony Pasin MP, representing Peter Dutton Federal Minister for Home Affairs.

The City of Mount Gambier hosts Citizenship Ceremonies every three months.
