The Aquatic Centre building at Olympic Park on Margaret Street is being demolished to make way for the construction of the Mount Gambier Community and Recreation Hub.

City of Mount Gambier City Infrastructure General Manager Nick Serle said head contractor for the project BADGE Constructions is currently working on the structure, including footings.

“A portion of the building will be erected in the coming weeks as the team work on the first floor concrete slab,” Mr Serle said.

This is an exciting step and quite a visible milestone as we’ll see the spine of the two-story building going up and it will really begin to showcase just how expansive the building will be.

The installation of the sewer connection line will occur at the end of January 2021 and will require excavation through the Olympic Park car park to the Community and Recreation Hub site compound.

The refurbishment of the existing outdoor 50 metre pool has commenced.

Fencing surrounds the building site, but time lapse photography is recording the evolution of the project as the build progresses.

“Work on site is progressing quickly, and we encourage the community to go online and view the time lapse photos of the build which are updated every 15 minutes,” Mr Serle said.
