Council backs 3 year funding agreement for SEAWL
24 May 2019

City of Mount Gambier has rescinded a resolution made on Tuesday 16 April 2019 to provide the South East Animal Welfare League (SEAWL) with $60,000 in 2019/20.

Instead, at a meeting on Tuesday 21 May 2019 Council resolved to enter into a three year funding agreement with the District Council of Grant and SEAWL commencing 1 July 2019.

“The agreement reflects an annual contribution of $45,000 from the City of Mount Gambier and $15,000 from the District Council of Grant,” City of Mount Gambier Acting CEO Barbara Cernovskis said.

“The funding will be subject to SEAWL meeting KPIs to be agreed upon between the parties and negotiated within agreed time frames.”

SEAWL had requested that Council increase its financial support for the service from around $34,000 annually to provide certainty for the organisation moving forward.

“The issue is pertinent as the current five year tri-party agreement between the league, District Council of Grant and the City of Mount Gambier comes to an end in June 2019.”

“In arriving at the decision Council took into consideration the contribution that District Council of Grant was willing to provide and the broader community benefit of SEAWL’s operation.”
