Get your friends and family together and help make Mount Gambier clean and green at this year’s Clean Up Australia Day to be held this weekend, Sunday 4 March 2018.

Every year since 1990, local communities get together to roll up their sleeves and clean up their local schools, parks, sporting grounds, road sides and city centre areas by collecting and removing rubbish. The City of Mount Gambier will host the clean up in the vicinity of the CBD.

“A central marshalling area will be located in the Cave Garden, near the Civic Centre from 10:00am to 12:00pm on Sunday for volunteer information and to lead the CBD clean up,” City of Mount Gambier Environmental Sustainability Officer Aaron Izzard said.

Council encourages sporting clubs, families, individuals and groups to bring their own gloves and participate in the clean up.

“It’s more important than ever for everyone to play their part in keeping our environment clean, particularly with the current issues regarding plastic in Mount Gambier and throughout the world,” Mr Izzard said.

“Even a few minutes spared by individuals to help on the day all counts towards the big clean up.”

A free barbecue lunch will be provided by Rotary Lakes for all volunteers in the Cave Garden following the clean up from 12:00pm.

Community groups will also lead sites at the Valley Lake precinct, including the surrounding area and lookouts and various roadside clean ups. A full list of sites is available at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au

Register your participation online at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au and select your preferred location.

Schools Clean Up Day will be held on Friday 2 March 2017. Contact your school to confirm participation details.
