The Mount Gambier Library and The Riddoch & Main Corner Complex have teamed up for the upcoming school holidays to deliver a roman themed program of activities to complement the Ancient Rome: The Empire that Shaped the World exhibition currently on display at the Riddoch Art Gallery.

Kicking off on Monday 30 September 2019 the program runs for the duration of the school holidays and features a variety of hands-on activities to keep children of all ages busy.

“The Ancient Rome Exhibition has presented an ideal occasion to collaborate with the team at the Library to deliver this program, particularly as we are the only gallery in South Australia to have the opportunity host the amazing exhibition,” The Riddoch & Main Corner Complex Coordinator Talie Teakle said.

Bookings for the school holiday program are now open and should be made through the respective venues.

If you’re looking for something unique and fun to keep the children entertained these holidays Council is coordinating a host of activities where children can learn through play.
- Team Leader Library Programs Kristi Leamey

“Whether you like making pizzas or colosseums, playing gladiator games or craft activities, there’ll be something that will spark your creativity and awaken the Roman in you," Ms Leamey said.

Many of the activities are free however bookings are essential as sessions are expected to fill up quickly. Download a copy of the program from the Library or Riddoch website or collect one from the venues.

The Ancient Rome exhibition features more than 200 exhibits including artefacts, catapults, frescoes, armour, weapons and busts reconstructed from ancient roman records and is on display at the Riddoch Art Gallery until 10 November 2019.
