The City of Mount Gambier is now inviting applications from local sporting and recreation clubs to assist with capital works upgrades, with $100,000 on offer under the 2021/2022 Sport and Recreation Capital Works Program.
The funding is available to assist with projects with a minimum total cost of $10,000.
Projects that will be considered under the funding program include capital renewal of existing infrastructure, capital upgrades, new capital assets or projects which are aimed at increasing the community usage of specific sport or recreation facilities.

"As a general rule, applications should be for projects with a minimum total cost of $10,000 and a maximum total cost of $50,000. Preference will be given to applications that demonstrate a high incidence of self-help as evidenced by matching funds or significant in-kind contributions by the organisation.”
“The applicant's contributions for this purpose may include cash from the organisation's own resources, grants or funds from sponsors or other sources or in-kind support in the form of labour or service,” Ms Cernovskis said.
The program has provided almost $900,000 towards local sport and recreation facilities since its inception the in 2010.
In 2020 Council provided $100,000 as part the program, including a $35,000 contribution towards new lighting at Apollo Soccer Club.
“The new lighting, with LUX ratings exceeding other rural pitches, will allow Apollo Football Club to provide an active recreation space to rival metropolitan spaces,” Apollo Football Club Vice President Jerome England said.
“The new lights enable us to host high level teams at our facility in the future, due to meeting their required standards of a facility, and allow longer training times and pitch usage.”
