Mount Gambier Mayor's Christmas Appeal Launch

Local businesses, community groups, families and individuals are encouraged to support local people in need this festive season by donating to the 2018 Mount Gambier Community Mayor’s Christmas Appeal. Just $50 will help to ensure that one local family receives food and gifts this Christmas.

Fund assists junior Hockey stars
21 August 2018
The City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund has again provided support to a local athletes to compete at national level. Aiden Cameron and Jade, Liam and Shae Delaney all recently received donations through the Lower South East Hockey Association as an affiliated organisation of the Fund. Aiden competed in the Under 15 Boys National Hockey Championships held in Wollongong earlier this year and was awarded $300, while Jade, Liam and Shae received a collective donation of $1050.

Under the guidance of a new coordinator, the ReUse Market is taking shape at Eucalypt Drive as the City of Mount Gambier continues to work towards its opening later this year. Newly appointed ReUse Market Coordinator Rebecca Mobbs has experience in the waste management and recycling fields, in addition to extensive industrial, commercial and retail experience and a passion to reduce waste going to landfill.

Have your say on the sport and rec centre design

The community is encouraged to have their say in the design engagement stage of the proposed Mount Gambier Regional Sport and Recreation Centre. The City of Mount Gambier has met with various community groups in recent weeks, but Council also wants the wider community to participate in the design engagement stage.

Limestone Coast Investment Showcase
15 August 2018
A delegation of 12 Asian investors are visiting the Limestone Coast for a two day showcase throughout the region to investigate ways to value-add to local primary produce. The Chinese and Malaysian investors will visit Mount Gambier, Coonawarra, Millicent, Blue Lake Dairy and Mayura Station in search of opportunities to invest in local tourism, horticulture, agriculture, seafood and wine industries.

Council Elections Candidate Information Session
14 August 2018
Prospective candidates for the 2018 Local Government Elections to be held in November are encouraged to attend a free information session to find out more about the role and responsibilities of council members. The briefing session will be delivered by the Local Government Association of South Australia and the Electoral Commission of South Australia in conjunction with the District Council of Grant and the City of Mount Gambier.

Council and CRG meet with architects
08 August 2018
The Mount Gambier Regional Sport and Recreation Centre Committee and the Community Reference Group (CRG) met with architects at the Civic Centre last night to inform planning for second stage designs for the project funding proposal. DesignInc Adelaide and architectural partner CO-OP Studio Melbourne shared their project vision to design a high quality facility that reflects the character of the Limestone Coast.

Mayor responds to Sport and Rec Centre criticism

I wish to respond to comments about the proposed Mount Gambier Regional Sport and Recreation Centre made by Graham Greenwood OAM in his opinion column in The Border Watch. Mr Greenwood appears to be politicising the matter and looking in the rear-view mirror at the expense of focusing on community needs for the future. In the meantime, Council continues to act in the community’s best interests with a vision for a much-needed facility for future generations.

City welcomes four new Australian citizens
03 August 2018
The Thomas family are the latest members of the Mount Gambier community to become Australian citizens following a citizenship ceremony held on Thursday 2 August 2018 at the Council chambers. Originally from India, Reji Thomas, Juanita John, Mishael Thomas and Jessica Thomas made the Australian citizenship oath, pledging their loyalty to Australia at the ceremony.

Swimmers cross fingers and toes for indoor pool

Blue Lake Y and Mount Gambier Swimming Clubs returned from Portland this week more enthusiastic than ever about the proposed Mount Gambier Regional Sport and Recreation Centre after participating in highly ranked swimming clinics at the Portland Leisure and Aquatic Centre with former Swimming Australia head coach Leigh Nugent.
