Pump track project to attract international events

​A ‘pump track’ will be constructed at Hastings Cunningham Reserve later this year. Swiss based company Velosolutions will work with the City of Mount Gambier to deliver the $150,000 project which includes the right to host at least two Red Bull Pump Track World Championship qualifying meetings locally. Time capsule found at former Target site

​The former Target building on Ferrers Street Mount Gambier was demolished in the past few weeks and is being cleared to make way for the new Coles supermarket development to begin. During the works a foundation stone was salvaged, underneath which a time capsule and an additional historical stone were uncovered. Read full article

Rotary Club of Mount Gambier Lakes assists juniors

​The Rotary Club of Mount Gambier Lakes will donate $1,650 from the proceeds of the 2018 OneFortyOne Blue Lake Fun Run to financially disadvantaged junior sports people through the Junior Sports Assistance Fund. ​City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund Presiding Member Cr Christian Greco said the club wished to assist financially disadvantaged junior sports people with the costs of their participation in their chosen sport. Fund assists basketballers selected for national championships

​Five Mount Gambier junior basketballers were recently awarded a $350 donation from the Junior Sports Assistance Fund to assist with travel and associated costs to participate in the 2019 Australian National Basketball Championships to be held in Darwin. Read full article

Author of MH370-inspired thriller to visit Library

​Award winning journalist and political advisor Michael McGuire will be at the Mount Gambier Library on Monday 15 July at 7:00pm to speak about his new novel ‘Flight Risk’, a heart stopping airline thriller inspired by the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. Read full article

Community and Recreation Hub Update

The City of Mount Gambier continues to refine the internal design features of the Community and Recreation Hub with architects CO-OP Studio and DesignInc. Detailed design options for the sports court flooring and aquatics facilities are currently being considered. Community and Recreation Hub Community Reference Group (CRG) members met with Elected Members and Council Officers on Thursday 4 July 2019 for an update on the project. Read full article

Hub naming consultation continues

The Regional Sport and Recreation Centre Committee discussed extending the opportunity for the community to suggest names for the Community and Recreation Hub at a meeting last night. In May, Council resolved to undertake a month long engagement program to invite the community to submit ideas for a name for the new facility with a view to shortlist up to five names to be put to a community vote. 2019/2020 Annual Business Plan and Budget Adopted

​Following community consultation and a public hearing, the City of Mount Gambier adopted its 2019/2020 Annual Business Plan and Budget at a Special Council Meeting held on Thursday 27 June 2019. The budget outlines a total spend of $32.4 million in operating expenditure, depreciation of $7.3 million and total capital expenditure of $10.5 million for the delivery of services, programs and the maintenance of assets. Aquatic Centre closure in 2019/2020 and 2020/2021
25 June 2019

​The 2019/2020 Mount Gambier Aquatic Centre swimming season will end one month earlier than usual to enable development work associated with the Mount Gambier Community and Recreation Hub and the 50 metre outdoor pool refurbishment to proceed. The Aquatic Centre located on Margaret Street will close on 29 February 2020 and the Olympic swimming pool will remain closed for the 2020/2021 season until the hub project is completed in late 2021.
