Council adopts Reconciliation Action Plan

City of Mount Gambier endorsed its first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) at the full meeting of Council on Tuesday 18 February 2020. The endorsement demonstrates the Council’s commitment to continue to acknowledge, celebrate and create greater equity for local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through the process of reconciliation. Riddoch awards high school art prize

The inaugural Limestone Coast senior high school art award exhibition titled Calibre is now on display at the Riddoch Art Gallery with the major prize of $1000 awarded to 2019 Tenison Woods College graduate Max Crook for his work titled ‘Manifestations’. Community Christmas appeal reaches new heights
05 February 2020

The Mount Gambier Community Mayor’s Christmas Appeal has reached new heights with the final tally of donations for 2019 hitting a record $36,742.35. The funds raised through the appeal were provided to local welfare agencies the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul Society, Uniting Care Mount Gambier, ac.care and Lifeline South East who distributed food hampers and other goods locally to those in need at Christmas. New citizens conferred on Australia Day
31 January 2020

​City of Mount Gambier hosted its first Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony on Sunday 26 January 2020 where 12 Mount Gambier residents were granted Australian citizenship. Mayor Lynette Martin OAM presided over the ceremony held in the Council Chamber where the new citizens, originating from India, Zambia, Syria, Congo and the Philippines, pledged their loyalty to Australia and its people. Library launches Groovebox after school program
30 January 2020

​A new after school program at Mount Gambier Library will see youth creating their own music using newly acquired technology called ‘Groovebox Novation Circuits’. This joint initiative between Mount Gambier Library and 104.9 Lime FM commences on 4 February 2020 and will run every Monday during school terms with two half an hour sessions at 4:00pm and 4:30pm. 2020 Tertiary Health Education Grants launched
21 January 2020

The 2020 Mount Gambier and District Tertiary Health Education Grants Program was launched on Tuesday 21 January 2020. Now in its 14th year the program will provide financial grants to support local health students undertaking study outside the region. Applications are now open and students required to leave the region to undertake university studies in areas of health are encouraged to apply. Read full article

'The Ambassador' set to launch at The Riddoch

The Riddoch Art Gallery will present The Ambassador, a touring exhibition by Melbourne-based artist of Chinese-Singaporean descent Eugenia Lim. The exhibition opens on Friday 17 January 2020 at 6:00pm and presents Eugenia’s most recent work, The Ambassador series. Read full article

Council remains committed to cardboard recycling

​Residents should continue to put cardboard and paper in kerbside recycling bins despite a recent decline in the market value for the material. There will be no changes to the service at this time despite a recent decision by Green Triangle Recyclers to introduce a charge for accepting cardboard via their Eucalypt Drive facility. Dig deep this festive season to support appeal

With Christmas less than one week away City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin OAM is calling on the community to donate to the Mount Gambier Community Mayor’s Christmas Appeal in support of those in our community doing it tough this festive season. The appeal aims to raise funds for distribution to local welfare agencies including the Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul Society, Uniting Care, ac.care and Lifeline South East who are busy preparing for the distribution of food hampers and other assistance to the less fortunate in the Mount Gambier community this week.
