Mayor responds to Sport and Rec Centre criticism

​I wish to respond to comments about the proposed Mount Gambier Regional Sport and Recreation Centre made by Graham Greenwood OAM in his opinion column in The Border Watch. Mr Greenwood appears to be politicising the matter and looking in the rear-view mirror at the expense of focusing on community needs for the future. In the meantime, Council continues to act in the community’s best interests with a vision for a much-needed facility for future generations. Read full article

City welcomes four new Australian citizens

The Thomas family are the latest members of the Mount Gambier community to become Australian citizens following a citizenship ceremony held on Thursday 2 August 2018 at the Council chambers. Originally from India, Reji Thomas, Juanita John, Mishael Thomas and Jessica Thomas made the Australian citizenship oath, pledging their loyalty to Australia at the ceremony. Read full article

Swimmers cross fingers and toes for indoor pool

​Blue Lake Y and Mount Gambier Swimming Clubs returned from Portland this week more enthusiastic than ever about the proposed Mount Gambier Regional Sport and Recreation Centre after participating in highly ranked swimming clinics at the Portland Leisure and Aquatic Centre with former Swimming Australia head coach Leigh Nugent. ​Following national recognition of local ideas around the use of open data, the Mount Gambier Library is pleased to announce that it will host its fifth GovHack Open Data competition in September 2018. Mayor responds to Sport and Rec Centre comments

I wish to respond to recent commentary surrounding the proposed Mount Gambier Regional Sport and Recreation Centre. This issue has been a talking point within the community for more than 30 years. It arose in the public arena once again in March this year, when Council was encouraged by the Federal Member for Barker, Mr Tony Pasin MP as the driving force, to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) for a major proportion of the proposal’s funds as part of the Federal Government’s Regional Growth Fund. Rook Walk Centenary
24 July 2018

The Mount Gambier History Group and City of Mount Gambier are calling on the community to share stories of their family history to celebrate the centenary of Rook Walk, Mount Gambier’s largest working bee. This historical moment saw Mount Gambier come to a standstill on Wednesday 27 November 1918. More than 2000 people assembled at the lakes area to take part in the greatest one-day community effort in the city’s history. Read full article

Architects appointed for sport and rec centre

DesignInc Adelaide and architectural partner CO-OP Studio Melbourne have been appointed as the architectural firms to provide the next stage of intermediate drawings required for funding submissions for the proposed $40million Mount Gambier Regional Sport and Recreation Centre. DesignInc and CO-OP Studio have delivered many projects in the community recreation sector including the redevelopment and expansion of the $24million Campbelltown Leisure Centre - the ARC. Two exhibitions to open at Riddoch Art Gallery
20 July 2018

Visit the Riddoch Art Gallery for the opening of two new exhibitions Seeing Voices and Pine Tree Quilters on Friday 27 July 2018 at 6:00pm. Both exhibitions will be on display until Sunday 16 September 2018 and entry is free. The Seeing Voices exhibition is collaboration between National Exhibition Touring Support (NETS) and Monash University Museum of Art (MUMA) and explores how the voice is visualised, employed and reimagined in contemporary art. Inaugural Community Reference Group meeting
19 July 2018

The Mount Gambier Regional Sport and Recreation Centre Community Reference Group (CRG) met for the first time last night at the Civic Centre. It follows Council endorsement of 17 members of the CRG at its monthly full council meeting on Tuesday 17 July 2018. The community members represent local schools, swim clubs, allied health care providers, community youth groups, sporting/recreation club representatives and other community groups. Read full article
