Inaugural Community Reference Group meeting
19 July 2018

The Mount Gambier Regional Sport and Recreation Centre Community Reference Group (CRG) met for the first time last night at the Civic Centre. It follows Council endorsement of 17 members of the CRG at its monthly full council meeting on Tuesday 17 July 2018. The community members represent local schools, swim clubs, allied health care providers, community youth groups, sporting/recreation club representatives and other community groups. Enrol to vote in Local Government Elections

​Local government elections will be held in November 2018, but the time to enrol to vote is now. Participating in your local council election is one of the most direct ways you can make a difference to everyday life in your community. In South Australia, council elections are held every four years to allow the community to choose who they wish to represent them on council. To ensure you have the opportunity to vote, you must be enrolled on either the State (House of Assembly) electoral roll, or your council voters roll. Read full article

$3.5million in Federal airport funding announced

​​City of Mount Gambier welcomes the announcement of $3.5million in Federal Government Building Better Regions Funds to support District Council of Grant’s Mount Gambier Airport redevelopment project. Federal Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government Hon Dr John McVeigh MP made the major announcement at the Mount Gambier Airport this morning. Read full article

Native fish thriving at the Railway Lands

​In April 2017 Natural Resources South East (NRSE) and City of Mount Gambier translocated 200 Southern Pygmy Perch (Nannoperca australis) from Pick Swamp at Piccaninnie Ponds Conservation Park to the large water catchment area at the Railway Lands. NRSE Wetlands Conservation Ecologist Steve Clarke said the project aimed to take a sterile pond and make it function as a native ecological system. Read full article

Guides of Mount Gambier Funding Boost

​Tourism Mount Gambier welcomes $20,000 in Federal Government Building Better Regions Fund Community Investments, to bring the Guides of Mount Gambier visitor economy project to life to revitalise the local tourism industry. Tourism Mount Gambier will match the funds provided by the Federal grant to develop Guides of Mount Gambier, a long term project in partnership with the City of Mount Gambier to create a formal professional tour guiding program within the local tourism industry. 2018/19 Annual Business Plan and Budget Adopted

​City of Mount Gambier adopted its 2018/2019 Annual Business Plan and Budget at a special meeting on Tuesday 3 July 2018. Council will spend a total of $38.4million - $30.2million in operating expenditure and $8.2million in capital expenditure - on the delivery of services and programs, maintenance of assets and the development of new and upgraded assets. Percy Street Butterfly Art Installation
03 July 2018

An award winning team of artists, engineers and scientists from Victoria University today installed 29 three-dimensional butterflies on the light posts of Percy Street as part of the second installation of the Ripley Arcade and Percy Street Public Art Projects. Skunk Control combines art, science and design and collaborated with local schools to merge creativity and science into public art works for Mount Gambier. ​​ Read full article

Junior basketballers prepare to shine

The City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund congratulates Basketball Mount Gambier juniors Oliver Thomson, Emily Dawe and Sarah Nulty on their selection in the State Country U/16 Boys and Girls teams to attend the 2018 U/16 Australian National Basketball Championships to be held on the Sunshine Coast later this month.​ The City of Mount Gambier Junior Sports Assistance Fund made a donation of $1,050 ($350 each)​ to help Oliver, Emily and Sarah participate in these events.
