Council hosts Recycling Week activities

The Riddoch & Main Corner Complex and Mount Gambier Library are hosting activities as part of National Recycling Week. The Planet Ark initiative is the annual opportunity for councils, workplaces, schools and individuals to brush up on their recycling knowledge.

Innovation Lab back at the Mount Gambier Library

The third Mount Gambier Library Innovation Lab will be held this Saturday 2 November 2019 from 10:00am to 1:00pm. The free family friendly event will be delivered in collaboration with Anvil Electronics, TDRS, eNVIsion Limestone Coast and The Riddoch & Main Corner Complex and provides an opportunity for the community to explore, see, share, touch and play with different technologies.

Rail Trail now home to praying mantids sculpture
23 October 2019
The Mount Gambier Rail Trail is now home to a praying mantids sculpture by renowned local artist Ivo Tadic. Funded in part by the City of Mount Gambier Creative Arts Fund, the sculpture aims to add colour and interest to the section of the trail between Sturt Street and Harrald Street opposite the Hellenic Hall.

New float unveiled for 60th Christmas Parade

The 2019 NF McDonnell and Sons Mount Gambier Christmas Parade is just around the corner and preparations are nearing completion following the unveiling of a new float this week. Named after the classic poem ‘Twas the night before Christmas, the float provides a new attraction to commemorate the 60th event.

GovHack success celebrated
21 October 2019
Local entrepreneurs Mercedes Scott and Mark, Charlene and Correa Bachmann were rewarded for their unique initiatives at the Mount Gambier GovHack Awards held on Monday 14 October 2019. The GovHack Open Data competition took place simultaneously across Australia and New Zealand over a 46 hour period in early September.

2019 Mayor's Christmas Appeal launched
21 October 2019
City of Mount Gambier Mayor Lynette Martin OAM officially launched the 2019 Mount Gambier Community Mayor’s Christmas Appeal on Friday evening. The event was held at the City Hall and was attended by representatives from local agencies, organisations and individuals who have made significant contributions to the appeal over the years.

Judy Nunn to launch new book Khaki Town

The Mount Gambier Library will host popular Australian actress and award winning author Judy Nunn at the City Hall on Wednesday 30 October 2019 to launch her brand new novel ‘Khaki Town’. Commencing at 7:00pm, the author event will shine a light on recent wartime history.

City program to celebrate positive ageing

The City of Mount Gambier is celebrating positive ageing from Monday 21 October to Friday 1 November 2019 with a program of events for those in the community aged 55 and over. The program coincides with ZestFest, a statewide festival for modern ageing, and provides opportunities for residents in this demographic to get out and about in Mount Gambier through a range of specially programmed events and activities.

Residents encouraged to get on their bikes

Mount Gambier residents are encouraged to join commuters across Australia by jumping on their bikes as part of national Ride2Work Day on Wednesday 16 October 2019. More than 150,000 Australians are expected to demonstrate the power of the pedal as they hop on their bikes and enjoy the health benefits of riding to work.
