Fringe in Mount Gambier

The Cave Garden and surrounding venues are set to come alive next weekend as the Fringe in Mount Gambier program heats up on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 March. A huge array of local and interstate talent forms part of the festival that has been curated by local musician Louise Adams, local artist Mark de Nys and internationally renowned choreographer Lewis Major. Five By-Laws up for public comment

​The City of Mount Gambier is undertaking public consultation on five proposed By-Laws to replace existing By-Laws which will expire on 1 January 2019. By-Laws enable Council to regulate activities within the Council area that are not specifically addressed by other legislative and regulatory provisions. Read full article

Lights off for Earth Hour Saturday 24 March
15 March 2018

To celebrate Earth Hour, the lights will be switched off at the Main Corner, City Hall, Library, Vansittart Park, Lady Nelson Brig, the Railway Lands and the Centenary Tower between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on Saturday 24 March, 2018. In the lead up to the largest global conservation movement for the environment, Council will host Earth Hour inspired events at the Library and the Main Corner. Read full article

Entrepreneurs in Conversation: Limestone Coast

Adelaide Consul-General visits Mount Gambier

Mount Gambier Mayor Mayor Andrew Lee hosted a morning tea for the Consul-General of the People's Republic of China to Adelaide Mr Cai Siping and invited guests at the Civic Centre this morning. Mayor Lee invited Mr Siping and his wife, Consul Ms Tan Yuan to Mount Gambier for their first visit to experience local tourism attractions, such as the Blue Lake, Mount Gambier Library, the Main Corner and the Railway Lands and to discuss opportunities to work together to further promote agriculture and trade and further strengthen ties between China and the region. International Limestone Coast Video Art Festival
06 March 2018

The Main Corner and Riddoch Art Gallery will host the inaugural International Limestone Coast Video Art Festival in Mount Gambier from 29 September to 21 October 2018. Submissions are now open and Australian and international video artists are invited to apply for a chance to win a grand prize of $3,000. The festival will celebrate video art and place special emphasis on innovative and ground-breaking video art internationally, including the work of Australian and South Australian artists. Events return almost $14million into local economy

A report presented to Council at its February meeting highlights that for an annual investment of $401,033 (financial and in-kind) to support local events, the return is conservatively estimated at $13,880,000 in economic benefits to Mount Gambier. Council’s contribution provides benefits for the community far in excess of the dollars and staffing resources allocated to events management, support and funding. Read full article

Put your gloves on for Clean Up Australia Day

​Get your friends and family together and help make Mount Gambier clean and green at this year’s Clean Up Australia Day to be held this weekend, Sunday 4 March 2018. Every year local communities get together to roll up their sleeves and clean up their local schools, parks, sporting grounds, road sides and city centre areas by collecting and removing rubbish. The City of Mount Gambier will host the clean up in the vicinity of the CBD. Read full article

Youth Strategy & Culture & Heritage Plan delivered

​City of Mount Gambier Councillors will meet to prioritise recommendations from the landmark Youth Engagement Strategy and the Culture and Heritage Plan respectively at a workshop on Tuesday 27 February 2018. The Youth Engagement Strategy and the Culture and Heritage Plan deliver on key initiatives of the Community Plan – The Futures Paper 2016 – 2020, Council’s overarching strategic plan. Mount Gambier Disc Golf Course
23 February 2018

Mount Gambier now boasts 18 permanent baskets at the professionally designed Mount Gambier Disc Golf course at Browne’s Lake, which is free for community use. The club had been using portable baskets before the City of Mount Gambier supported the establishment of the course with a $22,000 boost from its 2017/18 budget. Read full article
